Make up industry is becoming more and more creative nowadays and make up companies starts to improve more products compared before. Their products are becoming more wide-ranged because of the make up artists’ skills and standards on applying make up to their clients.
By this reason, make up products are experimenting on how to produce a product that is safe for human contact but did not consider the safety of animal testers.
As I was scrolling through TikTok, I saw a video of a rabbit with chemical burns and blind eyes caused by cosmetic experiments. Out of curiosity, I searched about that rabbit and found the full video in YouTube.

The video’s title is “Save Ralph.” It is a video that reveals the reality about animal testing for the purpose of healthy make-up application on humans. The video starts with Ralph introducing himself to the camera team, as if he’s documenting his experience about his upcoming “work,” telling them that experimenting on them isn’t a big deal because they do it for humans, who are much superior to animals. He continues to eat breakfast while claiming that everybody, including his dad, is a tester.
Fast forward to his so-called job, his friends that are locked on the same acrylic cage seen above the photo are telling Ralph that the camera crew should help them get out because it really is a death row to the rabbits.
After a scientist putting a chemical in his left eye, he is discharged from the laboratory and got filmed with the results of having neck brace, both eyes are blinded and a chemical burn spot at the back. He said, “I just want to say to everyone out there who are still buying animal-testes cosmetics like eyeliner, shampoo, sunscreen, pretty much everything in your bathroom. Well, without you and your country allow animal testing, I’d be out of the job. I’d be on the streets. Well, not the streets more like a field. But I guess you know, like a normal rabbit but hey… It’s all good.”
As a make up enthusiast, I feel guilty but enlightened about that short film. I admit that I do not check if I am using a cruelty-free make up. Watching the video is an eye-opener to all of us because it is an awareness that we should take matters with. All lives matter including animals. Nothing is more superior than a living matter. No one should risk their lives just to make something beautiful.
